Description:

The Jaguar is the world's 3rd largest cat and the Neotropic's largest predator. This elusive feline is best seen along the Cuiaba River in Brazil's Pantanal at the end of the Transpantaneira Road, which is where I photographed this female.

I was right on the Cuiaba river too though probably not far enough down the Transpantaneira.

Hi - we saw 3 Jaguars during 2 days along the Cuiaba River, it was just before the rainy season, quite warm. The Jaguars are often active in the heat of the day unlike African big cats. Its very difficult to see them in the Amazon but if visiting the right areas in the Pantanal, the chances are excellent. Another great spotting! I was just in Brazil last winter. I did 2 trips into the Pantanal and spent 2 weeks in the Amazon but never saw a Jaguar. What were the conditions like when you spotted it? It was just the beginning of the rainy season when I was there and apparently it was starting later than usual.
