Habitat:

spotted on small lake dock in county park

Notes:

This bird has been habituated to the presence of people in the park. I was there for the sunset and a family was there fishing. The heron landed only a few feet from us and stayed almost 45 minutes. Later another young family arrived and said that they see the bird often and sometimes feed him their catch.

I appreciate your kind comments. The sunset was special, but being that close to a heron was extraordinary. Makes one realize how big they really are.

Thank you, All. It was a stunning evening all they way around. I was leaning over the rail when the heron landed 8-10 feet away. I got the first shot I could for fear he'd disappear as quickly as he appeared.

The first photo is really awesome!!! From the coloration to the lines and casts of shadow. Generally I personally would use a scene straightener to correct the horizon, however in this shot the tilted horizon really adds something to the photo. Really really really nice shot!!!!
