Hello, I've created a spotting called "Eggs of the World." I'd really appreciate if you contributed this photo (and future egg spottings) to the mission. Thank you! Eggs of the World - http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/8022274
I've definitely seen cutworm caterpillars and moths around here, so I think you're right. Thanks very much for the ID, KarenL!
OK, found one, but it's not as clear as the picture in my guide -http://bugguide.net/node/view/426853
I was going through one of my guides looking for something else & found a photo of some identical eggs! Unfortunately I can't find a photo of the eggs online so you may have to take my word for it!
Thanks KarenL. And Ellysse, that's a great question... I've never actually seen butterfly eggs hatch out, but I'm guessing a lot of the tiny caterpillars don't get a chance to grow up.
i wonder how many of them actually survive?
I've seen that kind of egg before, so I'm guessing they're something common. But I'd love to know what. :)
