Field Notes

Notes:

Found this poor bird in an injured state perching on a tree branch. It had a broken left wing. The injury was due to some tribals trying to kill it by pelting stones.(came to know about it after talking to some locals ).It wouldnt move from its place for a long time.
Guess people need to be educated about preserving the local treasures......

Good thing sir. Emma, you guessed it right, we go outing together, no bird trips yet but very soon.
mind you annorion the local tribes are a great source of information . its just that they need to be educated and just hope that they will learn.
@Atul kudos to you for trying to inform them! Although sad and hard to understand actions for some of us, I think this is a perfect reminder of the importance of everyone in communities like Project Noah to continue to learn and pass on the information they know to others. Atul, I hope you continue your efforts in sharing your knowledge with the tribal people.
yes its real fun i have done it when i was small.
its more fun bringing mangoes down with those !!
it was a sling shot Emma, its called Bechki in marathi
@ Textless ,somebody probably used slingshots to bring it down. Similar to how some cats or birds are targets of Beebe guns here.
@ atul,do you go birding with Satyen Mehta?
Very true Emma and annorion it hurts, but for some this is just a game ,they do it for fun .we have been doin some work around here in our part , when we go bird watching we try and teach the tribals about the importance of preserving nature and taking care of it, we give them our contact numbers and tell them to inform us about new sightings in the area. things are working out but at a slow pace .... hope people understand before its too late.......
Hard to see such unnecessary suffering. I don't think I'll ever fully understand why people do such things.
Really sad Atul. Wild life is so innocent and they are very intelligent too! I have experienced the playfulness of critters as small as dragon flies and praying Mantis! also of a tiny parakeet . it really hurts to the core to see them suffering unnecessarily. How do you even rationalize such things? Hope that the poor bird was able to deal with it.
Arghh! :-( And these are such beautiful birds. We have quite a few of them around here, and it's such a lovely sight when several of them are flying together...
it is Ashutosh, people dont realize how precious mother nature is
