This is actually an American Lady - Vanessa virginiensis. Here is a good page for distinguishing between the two. http://bugguide.net/node/view/71459 The easiest way to tell with this specimen is the small white spot on the first submarginal orange cell. Excellent spotting. All I ever get around here is V. cardui. I am so jealous.
