You've got me thinking I need to get some closer pictures. The grey heron is the shyest of the 3 species and I don't usually get a good shot.
That's very cool, Bruce. I have heard of leucistic grey herons, which would look very similar to great white egrets... I wonder if that's what it is? It would explain the fishing together! Either way, thanks for the update, always interesting to hear!
This grey heron has been spotted again on 10/20/11 & 10/21/11 up down this stream some 200 meters. It shares this stretch with a great white egret also spotted these same days. The two fish together more like a mated pair than two different species. I don't know if that would be normal or if there might be crosses.
