Field Notes

Description:

Found in front of front door (black, with a fluorescent light above it) on porch.
Moved it gently to the porch railing. It beat its wings once during the move and was surprisingly strong.
We left to grocery shop and returned a couple hours later to find it had flown up next to a window with a black shutter a few feet above the light.

Habitat:

The very closest plants are some rose of Sharon bushes and rose buses. Nearby are a couple groups of trees. A small group of 5 oak trees and a group of five pine trees. I have a former garden that is now overgrown with milkweed, thistle and clover, sweet pea, purple vetch, and various herbs like lemon balm, peppermint and spearmint. Then surrounding our yard is agricultural fields which are surrounded by mix forest. Our apartment house has four apartments and is made of brick on on half and white board on the other. Built about 1800.
