Description:
Crambidae; Spilomelinae; Parotis sp. I cannot adequately describe this moth other than to state the obvious. It is green! There is clearly difficulty for amateur enthusiasts like me when it comes to such creatures They are fairly non-descript and they are nocturnal. Also, even the internet information on this type of moth seems to be pretty thin. Even Philippine Lepidoptera have only three Parotis spp. on display. If I ever find a better identification, I will publish it here.
Habitat:
This Parotis sp. was spotted on a very dark evening (along with some other moth species) visiting a Tonkin Jasmine (Telosma cordata) beside our front gate.
Notes:
This unfortunate moth had severe damage to its front left wing, a large triangular section at the apex was missing. It looks like some predator had bitten it clean off. I would normally have ignored this one and looked for a better spotting, but it was the first Parotis I ever saw and, until now it is still the only one I have ever seen.
