Red Scorpionfish, Großer Roter Drachenkopf

im not 100% though but it looks to be in the Scorpaenidae family which also includes the redfishes but i couldnt find a red fish with the same colourations and spots on the tail, if i was to hazard a guess at a possible redfish it would be the Sebastes marinus would be good to get another opinion!

I have a feeling its the red scopionfish because of the eyes really, i see these a lot on dives actually i have photos of a few on my profile, much nicer in the wild than on a plate, although careful around the spines they harbor the second most venomous poison in the fish world!

how spiky were the fins? were they proper barbs?

Looking Closer at the head it actually looks like a true scorpian fish, i had a look at the fishery in the area and came up with Scorpaena Scrofa photos vary but found this one from a mediteranian fishery, note the spots on the fins which are visible in your fhoto and the flattened head http://www.peixosdepalamos.com/html/productes.asp?n0=1&e0=1&e1=1&e2=17&e3=89&e3_2=3

Looks like a species of Rock fish in the Sebastes Family, ill have a look through the guides to see if i can ID it further.

good point, they don't have spots on them....
