Field Notes

Notes:

Spotted this little guy crossing our asphalt drive. He looks like the flower crab spiders I have found in our garden in form, but is a golden color & was found a long distance from any flowers so I'm not 100% sure of the ID. I brought him in for a couple of close ups & then released him.

Species ID Suggestions

Small Crab Spider

Diaea sp.

This is definitely from the family Thomisidae, prety sure it's from the genus "Diaea"
I have found a few of these little guys in various colors - their stance & behavior (hanging out on flowers & ambushing their prey) suggests flower crab spiders, but the body shape doesn't exactly match & I haven't been able to find an exact ID
The stance is right, but its body looks a little odd. Interesting!
