Description:

Mostly black and white, with transparent wings.

Saw several of these mating pairs on a spotting trip to the Boondall wetlands with Neil Ross and Shanna Bignell.

These are fabulous photos, Pam. Excellent spotting... and great patience. It was at this exact moment where I threw my hands in the air and went in search of Pigface.
Shanna, I read that in some butterflies, the male often waits near the pupa till the female emerges and mates with her while she's waiting for her wings to dry!
Pam, I was really surprised when I zoomed in on my shots and saw the pupa. You think it belonged to one of them? Nath and I were looking at it and neither of us had any idea what to make of it.
Thanks Mark... It looks like this female might have just emerged from the pupa, as it is still hanging between them.
