Field Notes

Description:

The nice black hood identifies this sparrow as an adult male and the buffy colour just visible on the shoulders says it is the Oregon race, which is typical for the PNW. Holding food in its pale coloured beak proves breeding of this species at this location.

Habitat:

Conifers along the heather trail in the subalpine at Blackwall peak, Manning Park, BC. North Cascade Mountain Range. The nest seemed to be right under this conifer.

Your spotting has been nominated for the Spotting of the Week. The winner will be chosen by the Project Noah Rangers based on a combination of factors including: uniqueness of the shot, status of the organism (for example, rare or endangered), quality of the information provided in the habitat and description sections. There is a subjective element, of course; the spotting with the highest number of Ranger votes is chosen. Congratulations on being nominated!
