Parktown Prawn

Libanasidus vittatus

King Cricket

Comments (3)

Laura: i initially thought it was a parktown prawn (or King Cricket), of the family Anostostomatidae... however on investigating the options further it seems more likely to be a true cricket of the family Gryllidae. I could well be wrong, thank you for your constructive suggestion.
Wow what a cricket... it looks like something called a parktown prawn, but it is a cricket (obviously haha!). It's apparently quite common in SA! I'll suggest the ID for you and include the Wiki link :) Neat spotting!
None? all life is classified according to scientific taxonomy! a suggestion should at least determine the genus.
