Field Notes

Description:

Blue flying insect with a geometric pattern on the abdomen about 7 cm long. Both males and females have bright blue eyes. "The anal appendages of males and females are forked and the female is marked similarly to the male; however, the base color is brown and the markings are green." - Wikipedia

Habitat:

On an unknown bush along Lake Hodges trail

Notes:

R. multicolor can be found in the western states of the US.
This beautiful Blue-eyed Darner kept buzzing my head while I walked along Lake Hodges trail. I finally stopped and watched it land on a twig. It let me get right up to it and nearly touch it with the camera. The last two photos and video show it moving it's abdomen.

Thank you textless. I think this one was begging for attention :) I wish other arthropods were so accommodating!
