This very small, fancy fly stayed for a long time on a single yellow flower petal. Near Angel Peak, NM.

Thanks Atul and Cindy. Maybe I will submit it to BugGuide... partly to document where the flies live, but also because it would be fun to think of my little fly in the bug big time (relatively speaking).
There are some amazing looking fruit flies! You should submit this to BugGuide. They don't have any of this species recorded in Colorado yet :)
