Description:

This fox comes regularly to my yard and sometimes just sits in the grass. I think he was just smiling at me or at our cats. The fox was originally driven out of the yard by a deer and then came back out with the deer's fawn.

That is one brave kitty cat! I think the fox also might be a young one as well. Normally an adult fox would not hesitate to attempt to make a meal out of a house cat. Something you may want to be careful of in the future.

Yes, this one is a regular and he is does gets leftovers at times.

I wonder if the fox is hanging around because it's getting food there, as in rodents, or compost, or cat food. Or maybe the animals simply are friends--that does happen. @ Microbe, perhaps a fox would bark at a cornered rodent if it needed the rodent to move to be vulnerable (I've seen dogs do that).

i have seen foxes but never a smiling one! they are usually unhappy lol

Thank you - but I have to tell you it is really one giant ant hill and a lot of red ants as well. I guess they need a home too.

This fox comes around daily and is tolerated by our cats except for one who likes to run her off. Her mate doesn't come up close and just hangs around the outer yard. There has never been any bad interaction with the cats that I know of but the male makes us a little nervous sometimes.

Great photos... but I wouldn't like having it that close to my cat.

Looking forward to the deer pictures. Did you see it interact with the fawn? Does it ever "yipe" or "bark" in the middle of the night? My sister has a fox hanging around her house and it's been waking them up yiping at all hours of the night for the last week and they can't figure out why it's barking at their house from their yard.

I should have mentioned that he was driven off first by a female dear and then looked for by her fawn all within 40 minutes. I think I will add the photos of it.
