Field Notes

Description:

I think that this spider is Runcinia insecta (formerly called as Runcinia albostriata, which is now known to be a synonym). The reason for my calling it Runcinia sp. is, of course, the question of distribution. I cannot find Philippines on any distribution list for R. insecta. Some years ago, I had this spider marked as present in Philippines, based on information provided by a website called "insectoid.info" which no longer exists. There are a few pictures (some of which look like mine) in https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/832328-Runcinia-insecta/browse_photos

Habitat:

This Grass Crab Spider was spotted on Corn seedlings (Zea mays) in our backyard vegetable plot.

Notes:

My first picture looks a bit like some kind of alien creature from a distant galaxy. I wonder if anybody will notice. No wisecracks about distribution please :-)
