alicelongmartin thanks for that old gardener's tip! As many of us grow more of our own food, the wisdom of previous generations is so helpful. The leaves are edible too (I read in a NYTimes article recently).

Very nice. I remember when my father used to tie the leaves above it to keep the sun off so it would stay whiter. (a long time ago)
