Field Notes

Description:

Moderately sized spider, at about the size of a quarter to silver dollar. Wintering over in my friend garage. This spider hides in a crevasse during the day and rebuilds it's web at night.

Habitat:

Normally found in gardens fields and woodlots. This one is living in my friends garage conveniently making a 3ft x 2.5 web in the empty space where the pull up bar is hung.

Notes:

As the garage is heated most nights during the winter months, it's an optimal spot for a spider to live as moths and other flying insects can be found there when the heat is on, as this is also the location where the fire wood is stored. I had just finished building a light softbox for macro/product photography when my friend spotted this spider. I was able to get a handful of pics two of the best you see here.
