Description:

large white mushroom with a short stem, usually quite dirty on top once it emerges from the needle duff.

Habitat:

sandy soil not far from the ocean, under spruce, hemlock, fir

Notes:

This substantial mushroom is often found parasitized by Hypomyces lactiflourum making it a Lobster mushroom & then quite edible.
