Description:

Basking Turtles like the Painted Turtles bask in the sun, but the sunbathing habit is especially marked among members of this group, who often pile on top of one another on a favorite log. The Eastern Painted Turtle is 4-9 inches. Carapace smooth, olive to black with red bars or crescents along edge; plastron yellow, sometimes with markings.

Habitat:

Shallows, weedy freshwater areas.
