Description:

Doryanthes palmeri, also known as the "giant spear lily", is one of only two species of plant in the genus Doryanthes and the family Doryanthaceae, both being endemic to eastern Australia. (wiki). These plants can grow to a massive size, and the flower stalk can exceed 5 metres (16 feet). This spotting is of three separate plants at various stages of flowering and fruiting. This species is listed as Vulnerable under the New South Wales Threatened Species Act (1995).

Habitat:

In a natural habitat, occurs on exposed rocky outcrops on infertile soils or on bare rock. It grows in a narrow band of vegetation along the cliff-tops and on steep cliff-faces or rocky ledges in montane heath next to subtropical rainforest, warm temperate rainforest or wet eucalypt forest. This spotting was of three cultivated plants on the University of Queensland Campus, Brisbane.

Notes:

A previous spotting from a few years back - https://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/1700416002 These wild specimens were spotted at Main Range National Park, which is a World Heritage Area. These are big plants, and they grow on the sides of mountains... quite literally!
