Description:

Easily 6" wide, irridescence with the flash of my camera but at plain sight it looks to be dark brown, one of the largest moths I have seen in Costa Rica

Clement, Thanks so much for the I.D. and information. I have seen these moths quite a lot over the years. I just got a new camera, saw him, and finally got the shot. I am so pleased that you have enjoyed seeing him.
this is a really cool find! youve got yourself there a black witch moth. these huge moths will migrate all the way to southern canada. by the time we get the up here, their wings are broken but youve got a fresh one!
