Description:
This member of the Aster family is a perennial herb, to 8 cm high, that has woolly stems each bearing a single flower. The 5 cm leaves are linear, woolly, and resemble pitchforks at the tip. The flower disc is 2.5 cm with ray flowers 1.3 cm in length; rays have a 3-lobed tip.
Habitat:
Alpine in open areas.
Notes:
This specimen was above timberline near the Alpine Visitor Center in Rocky Mountain National Park. The flowers look very large for such a short plant.
