Tropical Paper Wasp Nest
Unidentified Polistinae
15.4555, 119.92
Field Notes
Description:
The Wasp, which can be seen working on the construction of the nest, looks like it belongs to the genus Polistes, but I have been unable to find an exact match for its markings. However, going by colour and texture, the nest appears to be a "paper nest" and that helps to identifiy the wasp as a member of the subfamily Polistinae. It is not an "umbrella" type of nest (which has all of the cells open on the underside) and that rules out the Genus Polistes, leaving me with no choice, at the moment, but to call this wasp an Unidentified Polistinae. I think that it should be possible to identifify this wasp to genus level, simce I have the style of the nest as well as the wasp's colouration and markings to help me. So, I hope to improve this spotting soon.
Habitat:
Spotted in the farm on a Mango Tree (Mangifera indica Linn.) locally known as Mangang-kalabau. Plant information from - http://www.stuartxchange.org/Mangga.html...........
