Thanks for your research, Susan. It seems as though these bananas are eaten cooked. More like what we call a Plantain.

The heart can be eaten as a vegetable. When I was a child I remember eating a boiled banana (Saba variety) with seed. But this is my first time to see one full of seeds. I googled and found this website: stuartxchange.org/Butuan.html. This variety can reproduce sexually (also seeds spread by birds and other animals) unlike cultivated ones which are sterile.

I think it's called Musa errans Blanco. Common names Platano Butuhan, Saging Butuhan, Butuan, Butuhan banana.

How interesting...a banana with seeds. Cultivated bananas are seedless. Do you have any information on this plant?
