Field Notes

Description:

Spotted in the northern-most sector of Kruger National Park. I've added a video with some commentary from our instructors :)

Notes:

There are roughly 4500 species of dung beetle worldwide, of which 2000 species occur in Africa and approximately 800 species in South Africa. I'm not even sure of a genus for this beetle, so any ID help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you chebeagueschool for the information... very interesting stuff! And ceherzog, I cherish the videos I got so much... although they are all short because I was more concerned with taking photos. They make cameras now that take photo and video at the same time!
I love watching these guys...it's neat you got a video!
Dung bettles help hay fields. Bye pushing the dung and then it gets mixed with the soil witch makes the soil healthy.
