Field Notes

Description:

Large, with very long neck. Black neck and head with white patch on head separates from all except Barnacle Goose, but is much larger, longer-necked, and breast is pale, not black. Body brownish, paler below. The white on head forms 'throat strap'.

Habitat:

Breeds on lakes and marshes, along rivers and seashores. Northern birds migratory.
