Field Notes

Description:

Rather like Feral Pigeon in size and shape, thus smaller and shorter-tailed than Wood Pigeon. Plumage blue-grey with shimmering green and vinous neck patch. In flight, shows grey underwings and paler blue-grey back and wing-covert panel above.

Habitat:

Breeds in wooded areas, forest edge and larger, undisturbed parks with mature oaks and other deciduous trees which provide nest holes, locally also on rocky coasts or buildings. Nests in cavities.
