Field Notes

Habitat:

Found in the pelagic zone to the neritic zone in the Atlantic Ocean. In the western Atlantic, they are known to live in Gulf Stream waters from Massachusetts south to Brazil. They are found in the Caribbean Sea and around the Antilles. This is a surface-dwelling coastal species (within 400 miles of land) usually seen in open water when alarmed into flight by predators or passing boats.

Notes:

Seen often on Caribbean cruises if you look off to the side long enough. Seen throughout the trip on my recent Christmas cruise.
