Field Notes

Description:

Tiny Copepods varying in size of 1-3 mm seen coming to the surface attracted by light from the Boat. The appearance of this copepods (zoo planktons) in turn attracts whale sharks to come and feed among them.

Habitat:

Tropical ocean.

Notes:

An article I came across while researching the possible ID, shows similar sighting at equatorial Indian Ocean (Maldives) indicating the Blue-pigmented Copepods of the species Pontella valida :
