Field Notes

Description:

Footprints on top of slide marks in the snow

Habitat:

Frozen lake

Notes:

I was walking on the lake and at first I thought a coyote had dragged a goose or some other large prey along the snow. I followed the tracks and eventually saw where the tracks came from open water at the mouth of a creek. I followed them the other way and saw where they went back to open water at another creek. I went up stream on that creek and found where at least two otters had slid down the bank into the water.
