Field Notes

Description:

large tan mushroom with a flaring ring, whitish gills turning dark brown and free from stem; no particular smell, cap bruises slightly yellow, cap barely squamous, stem glabrous below the ring on some, slightly brown and vertically cracked on others.

Habitat:

near Douglas fir and western hemlock, sitka spruce and red alder, in deep needle duff.

Notes:

No one I've showed it to has been able to definitely identify the species. I'm entertaining the possibility of A. sylvaticus.
