Field Notes

Notes:

I walked down to our campus pond at lunch today and noticed several people with high-powered cameras and binoculars scattered around the shore looking at something in the pond. There were several hundred Canada Geese out there, which isn't unusual, so I asked a gentleman with binoculars what everyone was watching. He pointed out a small goose swimming with the Canada Geese and said it was a Cackling Goose. I came back after work and took a few pictures as the sun was going down. This little guy normally winters from California to Mexico, so it's a long way from home. Who knows the next time I'll see one in Massachusetts.
