Oh, I'm so sorry to read that the cute baby sloth lost its lazy mum (I didn´t know this happens often as Larry stated); very glad the volunteers were there to give a caring and loveful hand and save it. Greetings

Sloth babies are also orphaned regularly because they lose a grip on the mother and fall to the ground. They are quite resilient and usually survive the fall o.k. However, the mothers move so slowly that they are unlikely to go to the ground for the baby because of the possibility of predation.

So cute but sad that they are separated from their mothers. It's a shame that the ports' authorities don't clamp down on the "photographers" that are illegally trading in these animals & remove the "demand" for them.

Oh..such a beautiful baby..I feel so sorry that pouchers and alike are taking advantage of these poor animals. Thank God they take care of them at the sanctuary. I was in Manzanillo in 2002 and I loved this place. We were at night with the rangers trying to find turtles nests before the poachers will steal the eggs..it was quite exhausting! I also saw some sloths in Tortuguero and in the Pacific side in Manuel Antonio but not the two toed one. By the way, thanks for referring to Aviarios Sanctuary. I will write it down in case I return to Costa Rica. I would love to volunteer there! :-)

Oh my word! One of the most adorable things I ever did see! I love Sloths (I can relate!) but this is the first time I've ever seen a baby. Thanks so much. Do the mothers usually carry them around for a period?
