Field Notes

Description:

Pale Golden shimmering hairs on head and thorax. Abdomen was black with orange/red on first segment. Very inquisitive. Watched my every move. Never threatened me. If I became too close, it would fly off, only to return to flower it was nectaring on.

Habitat:

Found feeding on Common Milkweed found in the ditch alongside my yard that I purposely do not mow. It returned over and over again, seemingly obsessed with the flowers.

Notes:

I found this wasp quite fascinating. I had never encountered it before.
