Field Notes

Description:

A red and black dragonfly pictured in my garage on top of the car antenna. I had to run behind it for some time after which I guess he realised that I wanted to click his snaps and he stopped and posed for me. A medium sized black dragonfly with blood red tail and black hindwing patch, legs are brown with reddish brown base. Wings are transparent with reddish venation towards the base. The base of hindwing has an extremely
variable blackish brown marking. The veins within this black area are reddish. Wing spot is dark brown. Abdomen is blood red marked with black
triangles above. This midday flying dragonfly is commonly seen patrolling over water bodies.

Habitat:

Near gardens and pools.
