Field Notes

Description:

Found on decaying wood. Small plants are easiest to spot beneath their abundant drooping capsules. Small, upright tufts, are usually 1-3 cm tall, yellow-green, not particularly shiny. Leaves are clustered at top of red stems. Lower stems are sometimes matted with rusty fuzz.

Habitat:

Shady soil, on aged Sphagnum mounds, on rotting logs, also in cracks of rock cliffs.
