Field Notes

Description:

Damaged, white to cream coloured mushroom. The convex cap was approximately 10 cm in diameter with a smooth surface. Exposed cap flesh was white, no discoloration. A short slender white stem, slightly swollen at the base. No ring present, at least I couldn't see one. In the photos it also looks like there is a volva at the base, though I think it's a part of the cap that broke off. The free, broad gills were dark brown almost black.

Habitat:

Grew beside a parking space, on topsoil near a living beech tree (Fagus sylvatica).

Notes:

I think it's an Agaricus species, maybe Agaricus campestris. Spotted in urban area of Deventer, Holland.
