Dried up former inflorescence. Found near The Racetrack in Death Valley National Park, CA.

Habitat:

Desert.

This might be a Russian Thistle. There are two in Inyo county, Salsola gobicola and Salsola paulsenii.
Very Interesting, would make quite an attractive dried bouquet.
