hi Veronica, still they are same specie while different authors used various Genus but suggests homogeneity as Pardaliparus, as Parus or Periparus. Kennedy et. al. book used Parus while Tim Fishers' photographic guide used Pardaliparus, although Tim was co-author of Kennedys.
Thank you for posting that explanation from Sir Desmond Allen, KdonGalay. Would you know the accepted SN for Elegant Tit nowadays? Is it Parus or Periparus elegans?
here is the right explanation of the split from our resident ornithologist Sir Desmond Allen: It is the same bird. Previously taxonomists agreed to lump many kingfishers together in the genus Halcyon, but more recently they have decided that they should be split apart into at least 2 genera: Halcyon and Todirhamphus. There are many other examples of this kind of thing eg the Philippine Bulbul was originally Iole gularis, later Hypsipetes philippinus, then Ixos philippinus, now back as Hypsipetes philippinus. thanks Green phoenix and Veronica Prudente
yes these two are of same specie, and should have held Halcyon over Todiramphus for i'm using Robert Kennedy et, al Guide to the Birds of the Philippines book. But still I would rather ask our resident ornithologist for the technical differences.
Was this the same as Halcyon chloris?
It is amazing that you were able to get close enough. My experience with the kingfishers is that they are very skittish. Nice!
