Description:
Both the female and male Downy Woodpecker are very similar to the slightly larger then this species. Most of the distinguishing field marks are very much alike. The length the of the bill in proportion to the head was more distinctive in this case in identifying this bird as a Downy Woodpecker.
Habitat:
Woodlands, parks and other areas with a good population of trees.
Notes:
This bird is a regular visitor to a winter feeder and seems to prefer suet and /or peanut butter. It will also take certain seeds from the feeder.
