Field Notes

Description:

I spotted this same type of tree a few times in Decatur, GA. It has lime green leaves, and turns red-orange, orange and yellow and lime-yellow in that order, from the tips and tops of the branches in towards the trunk. I think it might be a maple, but am not sure.

Habitat:

Medlock and Druid Hills area - residential - natives given their size and location in landscapes.

Notes:

The leaves on the ground were all shriveled, so I couldn't get a closup of a single leaf.

Thanks for the ID. I will try to hunt down a recently fallen (not shriveled) leaf.

Beautiful colouration. At a squint it does look like a maple.
