Field Notes

Description:

Long red legs and a peacock kind of shoulder patch like an epaulet or something. Red eye patch and has a bib in front.

Habitat:

Iguazu Falls

Notes:

Photo taken by my brother in law Dr. Arupratan Ray...it was a request from me and I will be posting more shots as he and my sister send me more spottings. I have their permission to post.
Wikipedia says The southern lapwing is the national bird of Uruguay, and one of the symbols of the Brazilian state Rio Grande do Sul.
In India I have seen 2 other species of Lapwings.
