Field Notes

Description:

An uncommon sight to this area a Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) stands eating its meal, a Canadian Goose (Branta canadensis), on the ice of Sterling Pond. Local known as "Whacky Pond"

Habitat:

Bald Eagles can range from Alaska and Canada to Northern Mexico.

Notes:

This photo was taken by me, Necolasa Espeleta, on February 28, 2010. It was taken with a point-and-shoot kodak camera zoomed in all the way which accounts for the quality. The eagle caused quite a buzz with locals who spotted it. It hung around the area for over an hour before it disappeared. I have lived in the area my whole life (20 years) and this is the first time I've seen a or heard of a wild Bald Eagle in the area.
