Description:
Plant Robust; dingy yellow to brownish black; Capitulum with terminal bud somewhat obvious, stellate, capitulum branches pointing straight up and divergent; branch fascicles: moderately 5-ranked, 2 spreading, 1-2 pendant; branch leaves ovate -lanceolate, hyaline pores mostly along commisures (0-4 on proximal portion of convex surface), chlorophylous cells large and spherical mostly exposed on the convex surface; stem leaves about 1mm lingulate-ovate, fibrillose and porose on terminal end; stem cortex with 1-2 layers of inflated superficial cells.
Habitat:
Basin bog, partially submerged; pool-hollow. Associated species: S. subsecundum, S. angustifolium, S. pacificum
Notes:
Many characteristics point to this specimen being S. jensenii, but since S. jensenii is endangered in Washington state, I am hesitant to make any guesses.
