Field Notes

Description:

The plant with the yellow flower is Swamp Sunflower. The other plant with the pinkish cluster is a species of Smartweed (Polygonum sp), I think. This may be Lady's Thumb ( Polygonum persicaria). Two other Polygonum species are listed on the Phinizy Swamp plant list: Polygonum hydropiper and Polygonum punctatum. Or, it could be another Polygonum species or an entirely different plant. I am interested in your thoughts.

Habitat:

Aquatic plant growing in shallow freshwater marsh in east-central Georgia, USA. Spotted at Phinizy Swamp Nature Park near Augusta (Richmond County), GA.

Notes:

Photo ID = Smartweed (Polygonum Sp.)
