Clusius' gentian

Definitely, in fact I think in the photo on Peter's blog the flowers look like they are about to open. This species normally looks like a more typical Gentian flower: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gentiana_clusii

Do you remember the flowers as being like the Phyteuma rather than a Gentiana Ursula? The habit of plants of this genus in my experience are a lot taller as you say, but as I'm still squinting at the flowers in your photo, it's your memory that's most important! Things sometimes flower as very uncharacteristically squat plants when conditions dictate.

Gentiana sp. for sure!

Looks very much like a Gentian - Gentiana sp. Would be good to get a closer look at the flower, but I'd start there and see where it takes you.
