Definitely, in fact I think in the photo on Peter's blog the flowers look like they are about to open. This species normally looks like a more typical Gentian flower: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gentiana_clusii
P.S. I think this was it-Gentiana clusii (3d picture: http://petersfotoblog.blogspot.com/2009/08/gorsko-cvetje-mountain-flowers.html). Is it possible that when it's in the last stage of blossoming that it opens its flower that wide as in my picture?
I'm still new into flower identification, but what i remember is that is was really small, but the flower was quite "big" and had little and slim petals ... This last one i found (Phyteuma) is a lot like i remember it ... Maybe next time when i go to the Alps I'll photograph it more upclose so i can finally find it :)
Do you remember the flowers as being like the Phyteuma rather than a Gentiana Ursula? The habit of plants of this genus in my experience are a lot taller as you say, but as I'm still squinting at the flowers in your photo, it's your memory that's most important! Things sometimes flower as very uncharacteristically squat plants when conditions dictate.
Now, i found this flower which looks like mine: http://agrozoo.net/jsp/Galery_one_image.jsp?id_galery_obfuscated=0b750ce86b9b418ba163cf14b99efd3a
The only problem it's this one is a bit "taller" ...
Hi Ursula, I have created a specific mission for European Alpine flora. You'll be able to enter most of your Slovenian wild flowers spottings there. You can join the mission at
http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/7785036
This looks quite like it!
Next time I have to take more pictures!
And I'm still not sure, because it's so strong purple and has really lanceolated shape. Now i think that because of the dark flower this could be it: http://www.zaplana.net/flowers/Gentianaceae/GentianaClusii%28ClusijevSvisc%29/si_GentianaClusii%28ClusijevSvisc%29.asp
It could well be....difficult to tell because I can't see the flowers too clearly on my screen. The outline shape does look similar. Did they look like this close up: http://en.hribi.net/slika.asp?rastlina=286
This one, when open should look like it, what do you think? http://www.zaplana.net/flowers/Gentianaceae/GentianaFroelichii%28FroelichovSvisc%29/si_GentianaFroelichii%28FroelichovSvisc%29.asp
I don't know. I've been looking it up. Gentiana Alpina and Gentiana terglouensis look a bit similar, but i'm not sure, because on my picture it looks like it has longer flower ... i'll try to find it. Thx for the tip! :)
