Spotted from a car. We stopped and stared at him and he starred back - for ages!

Deep in densely wooded mountainous area

What an interesting beastie. Haven't heard of these before either. Another good read.
I'd never heard of these before we saw it. My Japanese family all swore it was a kind of Deer and I guess I would've thought so too if I hadn't stumbled across a pic of one on someone's blog. Looking forward to seeing your Chinese one!
Awesome! I spotted one in central China but was much darker than this one.
