Alex, to be honest I didn't pay to much attention to the tree, although I do recall it was a very tall & wide one - maybe too large for an apple? I will check out your suggestions, thanks again!

is this an apple tree. when it is i could suggest Aurantioporus (Tyromyces) - fissilis. When not then can you still look at the "fam: coriolaceae" good luck
